Artist Statement

A figure generated by an AI image generator and combined with memories of people I've encountered through out my day to day life materialises and dematerialises simultaneously. The red underpainting grid remains visible, functioning as an actual and theosophical guiding grid.

About the Artist

Logan Moffat

Since graduating from Elam with BFA Honours in 2018, I have continued to paint, exhibiting in a number of solo and group exhibitions. In 2018 I received the New Zealand Adam Portraiture Award for my painting "Elam". I've continued to explore the portrait since. Expressing primarily in oil paint, my focus on capturing the portrait has evolved over the years. My earlier portraits were direct observations of subjects that I captured in detailed, realistic portraits. My focus now is on capturing the audience's portrait through encouraging introspection and a moment of pause - though amalgamating the elements of figures, environment, size and structure of the painting and canvas.
