Artist

Grant Whibley

I graduated in Painting with honours at Elam School of Fine Arts in 1997. My tutors were artists such as Dick Frizzell, Don Binney, Paul Hartigan, Jackie Fahey and Denys Watkins. Being an Artist is living an uncertain life but creativity has steered me through my highs and lows. From bird portraits to the abstracts I am doing now, they are all, as paintings, expressive of this stage I'm on called life.

To my detriment, I taught Art and made art at the same time. Highlights of my career are that I've won several national awards, such as the Norsewear Art Awards in 2003, the Molly Morpeth Canaday in 2004 and featured in Dick Frizzell’s book “It’s All About The Image” published in 2011 by Random House New Zealand Ltd.

In essence, I've always been a storyteller and, whether it's been a single bird portrait painting, or a range of complex arranged abstract forms, it's always been a long story with me.
